Volunteering

Our workshops ''Confidence Building and assertiveness'' just finished after 12 weeks. We run workshops for Polish Community in Bradford. We really enjoyed it!

Confidence is not something that can be learned like a set of rules; confidence is a state of mind. Positive thinking, practice, training, knowledge and talking to other people are all useful ways to help improve or boost your confidence levels.

Confidence comes from feelings of well-being, acceptance of your body and mind (self-esteem) and belief in your own ability, skills and experience.

Low-confidence can be a result of many factors including: fear of the unknown, criticism, being unhappy with personal appearance (self-esteem), feeling unprepared, poor time-management, lack of knowledge and previous failures.

Confidence is not a static measure, our confidence to perform roles and tasks can increase and decrease; some days we may feel more confident than others.

This page provides practical advice about things that you can do to build your confidence.

Confidence and self-esteem are not the same thing, although they are often linked. Confidence is the term we use to describe how we feel about our ability to perform roles, functions and tasks. Self-esteem is how we feel about ourselves, the way we look, the way we think - whether or not we feel worthy or valued. People with low self-esteem often also suffer from generally low confidence, but people with good self-esteem can also have low confidence. It is also perfectly possible for people with low self-esteem to be very confident in some areas.

Working with Women

The activities focus on integrating Eastern European communities to living in the UK, there are a range of community cohesion events, promotion of healthy living and well-being through short courses, workshops. We work in partnership with key organisations across the City creating a network of partners to shape our work, enable opportunities. We embrace integration throughout from joining our Steering Group, volunteering. Our workshops remove barriers, help people in well-being aspects and also improve their health (for example children and adults with obesity problems). Our work have a direct positive impact on participant's health as social barriers contribute to the development of anxiety and stress. By improving mental health, the level of isolation experienced will be reduced as individuals become more active in the community.

We create an effective balance between Eastern European cultures, traditions and heritage whilst embracing living in the UK.

Our training materials are prepared by qualified individuals, updated as needed, and facilitated by appropriately qualified and experienced individuals employing appropriate training techniques and methods. We believe that training programs must be clear and understandable to the participant. Training developers should ensure that readability and language choices match the intended audience. If a service user does not speak or comprehend English, instruction must be provided in a language the service user can understand. Training programs should present information, ideas, and skills that participants see as directly useful in their lives. Successful transfer of learning occurs when the participant can see how information presented in the workshops can be applied in their lives.

6th December

Bradford – the World in One City – becoming home to cultures from around the globe during its past, its present and undoubtedly, its future. UK Butterfly Child In Need is a not-for profit organisation, which aims to develop positive relations within a Polish Community living in Bradford, believing that it is important to reserve traditions and share cultures. We Polish people celebrate the Santa Claus Day 6th of December with gifts and tradition.  6th December 2014 , 20 Polish Families took a part in ''Santa Clause Day''in Shapla Community Hall in Bradford.UK Butterfly Child In Need LTD held some special event for this day. The event was promoted withing the Polish community mainly by word of mouth and social media. We had around 450 people interested but our health and safety polices let us to have 100 people on the premises including adults and children.  This was a really nice time. We felt like in Poland. This was a very important event for us – parents and children. This event gave a chance to spend time together and celebrate the Santa Clause Day in Bradford.  We were celebrating this special day all together with Polish tradition, Polish art & craft activities - making christmas cards, gifts, Christmas decorations. Christmas Eve and Santa Claus Day are not celebrated by the British Community at the same time in England as by Polish Community. The dates are different and Polish celebrate ''Santa Claus Day'' 6th of December and Christmas Eve 24rd December. Children get presents twice and Polish ''Boxing Day'' is 24th December.  We were celebrating this day and preparing for Christmas, taste some traditional food and take home gifts, Christmas decorations and cards. We were eating a traditional Polish food - a supper in Poland includes barszcz (beetroot soup) with uszka (ravioli) stuffed with mushrooms and sour cabbage. Pierogi with meat, mushrooms, cheese and krokiety stuffed with cheese and mushrooms with sour cabbage were the main dish. We enjoyed all the food over the event.  We also had a performance with Santa Claus and his helpers. The Santa Claus was giving some small gifts out – the same for each child. Each child had a photo with a Father Christmas. Really nice part of the performance. The children were dressed as a fairy tale character – chosen by themselves. We had a character from Toy story movie, Elsa, Transformers, elfs, Princesses, kings, other.

Dziękujemy wszystkim ludziom o wielkim sercu...

St. Valentine's Day began as a liturgical celebration of one or more early Christian saints named Valentinus. Several martyrdom stories were invented for the various Valentines that belonged to February 14, and added to later martyrologies. A popular hagiographical account of Saint Valentine of Rome states that he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire. According to legend, during his imprisonment, he healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius. An embellishment to this story states that before his execution he wrote her a letter signed "Your Valentine" as a farewell. Today, Saint Valentine's Day is an official feast day in the Anglican Communion,as well as in the Lutheran Church. The Eastern Orthodox Church also celebrates Saint Valentine's Day, albeit on July 6 and July 30, the former date in honor of the Roman presbyter Saint Valentine, and the latter date in honor of Hieromartyr Valentine, the Bishop of Interamna (modern Terni). In Brazil, the Dia de São Valentim is recognized on June 12.

The day was first associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. In 18th-century England, it evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines"). Valentine's Day symbols that are used today include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards.

DECEMBER 2013

Bal odbył się w The Gateway Community Centre.
